Comprehensive Oral Exams
A comprehensive oral examination allows our dentist to evaluate your teeth and gums for any potential concerns. We have designed these exams to be comfortable, while still ensuring a thorough evaluation is completed. Oral exams are recommended at least twice per year, but some patients may need to come in more often. In the appointment, we educate our patients on what an at-home dental hygiene routine should include. If we find areas of concern, Dr. Vereen can create a custom treatment plan to address your dental needs. A professional cleaning may be performed or x-rays may also be taken at this time.
Dental cleanings are recommended every four to six months, as they can reduce the chance of developing severe dental issues and give your teeth a more refreshed appearance. Our professional dental cleanings can remove plaque and tartar from those hard-to-reach areas that your toothbrush often misses. Oral health and the overall health of your body can benefit from regular cleanings along with a thorough at-home dental hygiene routine.
As opposed to traditional x-rays, we use digital x-rays, which emit lower doses of radiation. The panorex technology at our dental office can create near-instantaneous digital photos of your oral structures. You will simply sit in a chair and rest your chin on a small ledge while the machine takes 360 degree images. These digital images are then immediately projected to our computer monitor; a faster method that does not require them to be developed, which ultimately saves you time. Once Dr. Vereen evaluates the images, he will discuss any potential issues the images highlight. These may include structural concerns, infections, asymmetry, bone loss, impacted wisdom teeth, cavities, or other problems. This digital technology creates an alternative to traditional bitewings, which can be helpful for patients who suffer from dental anxiety.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is a life-threatening disease that often does not display symptoms in its early stages. This makes it vitally important to receive regular check-ups. When early diagnosis and treatment occur, many oral cancer patients can have an estimated 80 to 90 percent greater chance of survival. These screenings often take less than five minutes to complete and can be added to your regular dental check-up.
Periodontal (gum) disease is the buildup of bacteria and plaque around the teeth and inside the gums. Over time, gum disease can create deep pockets that lead to gum tissue pulling away from the teeth. When left untreated, periodontal disease can endanger the teeth and even have an effect on one’s overall health, increasing the risk of life-threatening health conditions such as stroke or heart disease.
Dr. Vereen offers a variety of periodontal treatments to help care for your dental health. These procedures utilize state-of-the-art technology and effective techniques to reduce bacteria, remove calculus, and prevent the development or slow the progression of gum disease. We offer many advanced options to help you renew the health of your smile.
