Adults and adolescents alike have genuine concerns about the effects that prominent braces can have on their teeth while undergoing orthodontic treatment. In fact, individuals may even avoid getting their orthodontic needs addressed for that very reason. Fortunately, there are options available that can successfully correct misalignment and give the teeth a straighter appearance without the need for braces!
Our dentist in Aiken, Dr. Trey Vereen, offers two of the most popular alternatives to braces right here at our practice:
Invisalign® offers both teenage and adult patients a remarkably discreet way to address spaces, gaps, crowding, and other mild to moderate orthodontic issues. This treatment completely avoids the use of brackets and wires to move the teeth into a straighter position. Instead, Invisalign® is composed of a series of clear aligners made of a very thin, translucent plastic material. The aligners are custom-designed to gradually (and gently) bring the teeth into a more desirable position over time. Not only are the Invisalign® aligners virtually unnoticeable on the teeth, they can also be removed for eating, drinking, and performing daily oral hygiene routines.
Porcelain veneers have proven to be an extremely versatile treatment option for patients who would like to address aesthetic dental imperfections. Unlike many traditional orthodontic procedures, porcelain veneers do not involve ongoing orthodontic care; in fact, porcelain veneer treatments typically only require a couple of appointments. Veneers are custom tooth restorations that are designed to cover spaces, gaps, and signs of misalignment with results that look and feel natural. These options can effectively “mask” these concerns and provide the teeth with a straighter appearance.
In more severe cases of misalignment, braces may be the more ideal option. However, alternative treatments such as Invisalign® and porcelain veneers have been able to help numerous individuals effectively achieve their goals with exceptional results. Dr. Vereen will be happy to meet with you for an initial consultation to help you determine the best option for your needs. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact our practice today!
